This tripel from the De Ranke Brewery pours with large fading white head atop a golden yellow, slightly cloudy body.
The aroma is a mix of inviting scents. The Belgian yeast offers up the standard bread, banana and clove. There is also fresh citrus and floral, grassy hops with subdued earthy, funky notes.
The taste is crisp, with citrus, earthy hops and a peppery spiciness. The fruits in the nose follow through in the flavour, with orange, apricot and grape skin. There is a sweetish malt backbone, but this is still a relatively dry tripel.
Point to note: Guldenberg was the first beer produced in 1994 by the original founder of the De Ranke Brewery. The brewery is known for its assertive use of hops, and dry hopping of its beers.
