Brouwerij De Ranke don't make a bad beer, and this is one of our favourites.
Noir De Dottignies is based on a traditional strong dark ale, with the added benefits of a more than decent hop addition, from a brewer who likes to use hops in good doses.
It pours a near black body, with just some berry hints, topped by a rich, creamy off-white head. The aroma is a generous dose of toasted and roasted malt, caramel and candy sugar, with raisins and a subtle hop spice.
The flavour is full and rich - lots of rich malt from the six different malts used. There is a real sweetness on the front palate, which is joined by a solid roasted mat flavour, with a hint of chocolate. As the beer progresses, the sweetness is balanced by a good level of earthy bitterness from the Challenger and Saaz hops.
Getting the best out of this beer: We've said it about many beers, but again - let it warm a little first. The flavours will develop, and expose a richer, more intriguing aroma and flavour. This beer has at least 4 years on the best before date, and it will age well. The flavours will balance out and come together beautifully - if you have the self control to cellar it!
Availability: Small quantity remaining. Included in February 2014 Beer Club Pack.
