This is a great beer to tempt wine lovers into trying a beer.
‘Tess’ is a little farmhouse ale, which has been fermented on Pinot Grigio white wine barrels, and made using Hallertau Blanc hops which also have characteristics of white wine.
It pours a hazy golden colour, with the farmhouse yeast giving enough of a funky aroma to be certain of the style. There is also a solid orange citrus and white grape character to the aroma.
The orange citrus and white grape follow through in the flavour, combining for a fruity, zesty hit that is pretty sharp early on, that settles quickly. A little higher carbonation would probably add to a spritzier mouthfeel.
The beer finishes quite dry, with a little tart aftertaste.
