Piraat from Brouwerij van Steenberge is a classic. One of the original Belgian strong ales to delight beer lovers around the world.
The body is a glowing golden colour, with an amber red hue. The billowing white head acts as a filter to the aroma, which screams Belgian yeast. Bready malt, banana, loads of clove and gentle spices. It smells rich and inviting.
It's a big beer all round. Sweetness from fruit and bready malt up front, giving in to some citrus flavour with grassy and floral hops. There is a pleasant lingering spice mix, and slight bite to the aftertaste. And of course the 10.5% alcohol adds a welcome warmth.
About the brewery: The Van Steenberge brewery is one of the old family breweries of Belgium. With a history dating back as far as 1784, the brewery is now in the hands of the 7th generation of this family of brewers.
