I think Porter is something of an under-done style in Australia. Thankfully Europe – and particularly the UK – are very well-stocked. The Emelisse Porter came as something of a surprise, but a very welcome one.
It pours a very dark brown, and immediately gives off aromas of rich dark malt, brown sugar, chocolate and a hint of coffee.
Allow the beer to warm to bring out all the aromas and flavours. You’ll be rewarded with an indulgent mouthful of creamy dark roasted malt flavours, chocolate and coffee and dark stone fruit. There is also a little earthy hop bitterness, without any astringency in the roasted malt character.
It seems to drink above the 7.0% ABV; great news if you have another!
