It’s not often that you are actively encouraged to have a morning beer, but this seems to be the case with this beer from Funky Fluid. I’ve had a few pilsners and lagers at breakfast time before, but I can’t remember having a stout that early.
The can makes me want to drink this beer, there is something about the look of the can that suggests exactly what it will taste like, so without further delay let’s open it up and see what we have here.
Pouring a lovely dark colour with a big mocha head, there is a strong aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla, in that order.
Straight from the fridge with just a few minutes to warm up, the sharper roasted malt and coffee flavours are immediately evident. It feels a little thin-bodied so let’s let it warm up.
As it does, those chocolate and cocoa flavours come out more and more. I also get a hint of the vanilla which gives the beer a much smoother mouthfeel. It feels much richer and fuller now that it is at room temperature.
Vanilla and dark chocolate linger in the aftertaste, which doesn’t last that long to be fair. But I guess if you are busy getting ready for work, you need a beer that you can quickly enjoy and get on with your day!
