We continue our introduction of Funky Fluid’s beers with this hoppy offering. To be honest I really want to put one of the fruit smoothie sours in as these are the beers the brewery is really known for, but we’ll have to wait a little longer as we need to try these hoppy beers first.
And it might be a bit of a tough gig, with this beer having to follow the Stone IPA from last months packs. Nevertheless, lets take a look at this West Coast IPA.
Our beer pours a slightly cloudy yellow-orange colour, with an aroma of sweet malt supporting fresh grapefruit and peach.
The first taste offers an initial sweetness of fruit and grainy malt, quickly moving on to an assertive bitterness. I wouldn’t say it is in the classic West Coast bitterness realm, as it is pretty easy drinking. But the latter half of the beer does dry out with a level of grassy dankness creeping in to the lingering bitter finish.
For me, the body is probably a little light on. I reckon 7% is about right for the old school West Coasts, but this beer does have a nice balance. A decent version of the style and one that I enjoyed tasting to write these notes.
