This strong, dark ale pours a deep, reddish brown colour with a slight haze. It is very lively, with a thick foaming off-white head. It smells strongly of dark fruits, caramel and some spiceor even nuts.
A sweetness from the dark dried fruits and sugars presents early, as well as bready malt. Hints of clove and nutmeg follow, and the finish is dry and slightly bitter with a little tartness.
The beer is well balanced, with the sweetness being offset by a peppery tingle, and a faint alcohol warmth leaving a pleasant aftertaste that lasts. A perfect accompaniment to a nice cheese tasting platter.
