La
Debauche remain our sole French brewery, but given they make virtually every style of beer – and do it so well – we don’t really need anyone else. And I think everyone would agree that La Debauche have some of the most visually appealing cans around. There is often a deeper, hidden meaning behind the name or the can art, but I’m not always privy to this information. For this beer, we’ll just have to appreciate how beautiful our can looks as we contemplate tasting this intriguing beer.
Scarlet is described as a red fruit sour. A simple name given to a beer that has some flavour layers from the strawberry, raspberry, morello cherry, blackberry and red currant. A true smorgasbord of forest fruits on offer.
The beer pours a decidedly pretty pink colour, thanks to all the red fruits. It has a little hint of sour, but really this is more tart from all the berry flavours. Light in body but still offering a smoothness to the palate, it really is easy to drink this beer as you explore the different fruits as they present themselves.
Served cold this is a great afternoon aperitif, or allow to get a little warmer to let more of those flavours come out. It would be a cracking match with your Christmas turkey dinner as well!
