Should you be concerned when the first beer for this month is a Belgian dubbel?
Nah – just strap in and enjoy the ride!
De Graal is a small family brewery with a very modern and surprisingly sizable brewing based in a large shed at the rear of their residential property. The brewery started back in 2002, and over that time brewer and owner Wim has not only brewed a range of De Graal beers, but they also contract brew beers for some of Belgium’s other small breweries.
As most traditional Belgian breweries do, De Graal includes the Belgian classic styles in their portfolio – Blond, Dubbel, Tripel. So here we have the meat in the classic Belgian sandwich, the De Graal Dubbel.
The beer has an inviting brown body and gives off an aroma of caramel malt, dark fruits and a light dose of Belgian yeast.
The taste is a combination of dark fruits and malts with a good level of hop bitterness balancing out the sweetness. There is something slightly herbal late in the beer to offers a spiciness to the dry lingering aftertaste.
