With this beer, Duvel-Moortgat continue their tradition of the Duvel Tripel Hop iterations featuring different hops. You can read about the history of these beers on the Duvel Tripel Hop Citra page which was first made in 2007.
The idea is that the legendary Duvel beer is dry-hopped with a feature hop. Krush was known as HBC 586 while it was still in its experimental phase. We’ve had a few beers over the last couple of years with that hop.
We know Duvel is a benchmark Belgian beer, so what has the dry-hopping with Krush done to this beer?
As we’d expect the beer pours a glowing golden colour with a billowing white foam. There is loads of fresh tropical fruit in the aroma – passionfruit, mango, peach with a piney hint in the background.
Those sweet tropical fruits mix with zesty citrus for a light and easy taste. A crisp malt body, supports the fruit and spice flavours. Good carbonation hightens the tastebuds and makes for an enjoyable beer that finishes long, zesty, slightly tart and prickly.
I reckon the Citra version is still my favourite, but this is pretty bloody good.
