Deus is a Champagne Beer, and is the showpiece of Brouwerij Bosteels.

It pours a pale yellow gold, and very clear. A huge, thick snow white head forms, which collapses in on itself quickly. It is a very impressive looking beer. The nose is interesting – lightcitrus and herbs as well as a candy sweetness, with an underlying earthy funk from the champagne yeast.

The flavours are a great mix of sweet fruit sugars, crisp and sharp zesty lemon, subtle herbs and subdued bready yeast. The mouthfeel is very dry, with a decent body behind theflavours. In no way is the 11.5% alcohol content noticeable.

These beers are lovingly created. Brewed on site at the Bosteels Brewery, then send for aging in the champagne caves of France for 12 months. There are not many beers made in this style, but this particular brew is a resounding success and one that should be tried.
