by Brouwerij Corsendonk (at Brasserie Du Bocq)

This is a relatively new beer from Brouwerij Corsendonk, and kind of came about because of the success of the standard Tempelier beer which we featured in the March 2023 6-packs.  I won’t hold it against you if you don’t remember it!

I categorised that beer as a Belgian Amber – I’m not even sure this is an established style but I’m going to run with it anyway.  So I guess this is simply a Strong Belgian Amber Ale.  Any arguments??

Pouring this beer reveals a nice brown malt body, amber in colour and with a hint of fruit sweetness and of course a nice Belgian yeast character.

As I’m writing these notes, thinking about what I’m tasting in the beer I’m a little stuck for what I want to describe first.  After a few more mouthfeels I’ve come to the realisation that this beer is really well balanced with no particular attribute jumping out.  But it is a really pleasant beer to drink!

I guess malt is the hero of this beer, with enough caramel malt to stand out, at least at first.  Just a little fruit sweetness as well before the hop bitterness comes to play.  It lifts the beer, with a good level of carbonation aiding the light, drying finish.
