The Canaster is the winter seasonal offering from the artisinale KleinBrouwerij De Glazen Toren. The colour is a dark toffee reddish-brown, with a big light tan head that seems to last forever. The nose is strongly herbal, with sugar and dark fruits, but also an underlying astringent sour note.
The sweet dark fruits (raisins, plums, cherries) and spices (cloves, nutmet, cinnamon) make for an interesting balance of sweet and sour. The high alcohol content is masked well in the full flavours.
This beer is a little hard to define in terms of style, described as something between a strong dark ale and a wee heavy. It doesn’t conform to any stereotype, so embrace its individuality and enjoy a great beer from an outstanding brewery.
An extremely interesting take on the classic Belgian dubbel style, with hints of being a Flanders Oud Bruin.
