I've put together another quirky pack of sour and farmhouse ales. Intentionally this was cut back to a 6-pack, but it was difficult to cut back on the quality of the beers and I've included a couple I've been itching to try myself.
This pack consists of:
BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien 2018 (11.0%) - 750ml
Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes in Switzerland is a brewery I've been longing to try beer from for a while now. And this beer is one of their best.
A strong mixed fermentation sour ale aged 12 months in old oak wine barrels.
Cyclic Beer Farm Fresita (5.5%) - 750ml
The second beer I've sourced from this little brewery from Barcelona, Spain. They specialise in saisons and farmhouse ales.
This beer is a blend of saison, Brett. saison and sour saison with organic strawberries from Maresme.
La Calavera Bretternity (7.4%) - 375ml
Another Spanish brewery, this time specialising in barrel aged sour beers.
This is a sour saison aged in red and white wine barrels for 14 months, with local grapes (Moscatell Xarello) added to the barrels for the final 3 months.
3Fonteinen Intens Rood 18/19 Assemblage No.83 (6.6%) - 375ml
The Intense Red has always been one of my favourite fruited lambics from Armand Debelder (although I understand he is now retired from the brewery unfortunately).
This is Blend 83 of the 2018-2019 season. This specific Intense Red has macerated on fruit for 6 months. There is around 1kg of fruit per litre of beer. The fruited lambic is then mixed with other lambic. The lambic in this blend comes from 2 different barrels and 2 different brews. The final fruit intensity comes to 475 grams of sour cherries per liter of Intense Red.
De Koninck Oude Geuze (7%) - 375ml
This beer is actually produced by Brewery Boon. Over the years, Frank Boon acquired the naming rights to a few old brewery labels, including the De Koninck Oude Geuze.
Oud Beersel Geuze Vandervelden 135 (6.5%) - 375ml
Blend of lambics aged in Brunello di Montalcino barrels and a 3 year old lambic aged in the Oud Beersel tuns. This beer was originally made in 2017 in tribute to the 135 year history of this brewery which was started by the Vendervelden family in 1882.
