This is something pretty special for fans of Duvel Tripel Hop.
Back in 2007, the Duvel brewers produced a special version of Duvel, choosing an extra hop variety with which they dry-hopped their famous Duvel beer.
The first hop chosen was Amarillo, and the new beer was well-received by the public, But the owner of Duvel was not so happy that his famous beer was being played with, so called a stop to the experiment.
A public campaign to re-introduce the beer was started by a local Belgian beer group, and continued support was shown on a facebook page. Bowing to public pressure, the beer was redone in 2010.
From 2012, it was decided that they would brew Duvel Tripel Hop once a year, and change the extra hop featured. Over the years we have had:
2007/2010 - Amarillo
2012 - Citra (my favourite of all)
2013 - Sorachi Ace
2014 - Mosaic
2015 - Equinox
2016 - Experimental Hop HBC 291 (Edit: This is now a commercial hop called Lorel)
For the first time, Duvel have reproduced each variety, and the tasting box includes one of each beer. Theyve purposely not identified the different versions on the label, so you can undertake a blind tasting to decide your favourite.
Numbered 1 thorugh 6, the tasting notes included allow you to identify which beer is which. You can even make your tasting notes with the official Duvel pencil!
